The world is still breathing, still alive.
So why is it that I’m suffocating?
Dreams die, lives diminish, and in the end there is only darkness.
I’m afraid.
More frightened of her than I’ve ever been of anything that could destroy me.

 “I’m dangerous.”
“I know.”
“I am nothing but ruin. Toxic.”
“I know.”
“So why?”
“Because,” I tell him. “Maybe someday you will break my heart. Someday I will have no choice but to go back. Someday I will have to suffer heartbreak. Loss. But I would have also had this. How can that be bad?”
"And it's not scary?”
“Nothing’s scary when you hold me this way.”
He pulls me close to his chest.
I can hear the steadily beating rhythm of his heart.
“I need you,” he says. “I need you because you make the darkness seem less scary. Because every time I touch you I need you even more. Because you’re perfect.”

AARON
I don’t know what tomorrow holds.
Dreams die, lives diminish, and in the end there is only darkness.
What do you do when you can’t see the light?
What do you do when loneliness becomes the permanent agony of your soul?
The things that I desire have the power to obliterate my very being.
The love that I feel has the power to make me fall.
But just when I’m starting to get used to the darkness, I see her.
And even though I’ve never believed I could feel anything other than despair, she fills me with the brightest form of hope.
I’m afraid.
More frightened of her than I’ve ever been of anything that could destroy me.

JAMIE
I’ve never felt this lonely.
But then I’ve never witnessed someone falling apart.
Even his blank stare, as he watches his world crumble around himself, is beautiful.
And I’ve never seen someone break so perfectly.
All I can do is watch.
Because he won’t let me in.
Because just like his darkness, his abject misery is his own.
But what does that make me?
A passerby?
No.
I can’t just stand by.
Why doesn’t he understand that I can’t watch him fall apart?
That the sharp ends of the broken glass that is his heart, cut me too.
